About LiB in Shropshire
Ladies in Business, Shropshire was set up in 2006 and was the brainchild of four professional women looking to create a relaxed group in which women could network and build mutually beneficial relationships with like-minded women. Of the original team and sponsors who set LiB up, whilst two sponsors have changed, only one of the core ladies has changed and that was in year two. What dedication, achievement and support.
Meetings take place away from the workplace, giving you the chance to meet like minded women in professional positions, giving you the opportunity to make friends and feel less isolated in your work.
The Shropshire Ladies in Business Committee is made up of:
- Anita Roberts – Santander Corporate and Commercial Banking
- Sarah Hands – Santander Corporate and Commercial Banking
- Sue Fitzmaurice – Terry Jones Solicitors
- Rachel Wood – FBC Manby Bowdler Solicitors
- Marie Bramwell – Dyke Yaxley Chartered Accountants
- Jackie Young – Dyke Yaxley Chartered Accountants
We feel strongly about giving something back to the community. LiB is a non-profit making organisation and any surplus proceeds support our chosen charity for the year.
This year’s charity is Climbing Out, founded in 2010, by Kelda Wood after she suffered a serious leg injury that had a huge impact on her own life.
Climbing Out runs fully funded 5-day outdoor activity programmes aimed at rebuilding confidence and self-esteem in people who’ve been through a life changing injury, illness or trauma – including cancer, kidney disease, acquired disability, visual and hearing impairments, those affected by bullying, abuse or bereavement and survivors of terrorism, knife crime and attack. Climbing Out also supports veterans and members of the Emergency Services.
The programmes offer a wide range of activities including climbing, gorge scrambling, kayaking, hill walking, abseiling and raft building. The activities are run hand in hand with personal development sessions and life coaching to help the participants accept what’s happened to them and start to find a new way forward. All the activities are bespoke to the needs and capabilities of individual participants, making the 5-day programme achievable to all.
Climbing Out aim to ensure that all participants realise how much they can achieve – watching them grow in confidence and self-belief through the challenges faced when taking part in outdoor activities is an absolute honour and privilege.
In 2019 it became clear that Climbing Out could also benefit others outside of the original age range of 16 to 30, they recognised that it was more about need than age. So, this year they’ll be running 3 programmes for those aged between 18 and 30, as well as 4 programmes for the 30 and over age range. They’ll be running a further programme for those living with more challenging physical limitations, including wheelchair users.
