Ladies in Business, Shropshire was set up in 2006 and was the brainchild of four professional women looking to create a relaxed group in which women could network and build mutually beneficial relationships with like-minded women. Of the original team and sponsors who set LiB up, whilst two sponsors have changed, only one of the core ladies has changed and that was in year two. What dedication, achievement and support.
Meetings take place away from the workplace, giving you the chance to meet like minded women in professional positions, giving you the opportunity to make friends and feel less isolated in your work.
All of our lunch meetings take place at Adcote School, Little Ness, Shrewsbury, SY4 2JY.
Everyone is made to feel very welcome and enjoy a two-course lunch and listen to an inspirational speaker.
Our lunches start at 12 midday and finish at 2.30 pm and the cost is £20.00.
In addition to our lunches we also have two Netwalks in April and October. Anyone who has been on our Netwalks before will tell you they are an excellent way of getting to know people.
Our walks begin at 9.30 am and include a two-course lunch with the day finishing at 2.30 pm. The cost of this event is £25.
Each year we select a charity to fundraise for at our lunches and this year we have chosen Climbing Out, founded in 2010, by Kelda Wood after she suffered a serious leg injury that had a huge impact on her own life.
Climbing Out runs fully funded 5-day outdoor activity programmes aimed at rebuilding confidence and self-esteem in people who’ve been through a life-changing injury, illness or trauma – including cancer, kidney disease, acquired disability, visual and hearing impairments, those affected by bullying, abuse or bereavement and survivors of terrorism, knife crime and attack. Climbing Out also supports Veterans and members of the Emergency Services.
The programmes offer a wide range of activities including climbing, gorge scrambling, kayaking, hill walking, abseiling and raft building. The activities are run hand in hand with personal development sessions and life coaching to help the participants accept what’s happened to them and start to find a new way forward. All the activities are bespoke to the needs and capabilities of individual participants, making the 5-day programme achievable to all.
Climbing Out aim to ensure that all participants realise how much they can achieve – watching them grow in confidence and self-belief through the challenges faced when taking part in outdoor activities, making the 5-day programme achievable to all.
In 2019 it became clear that Climbing Out could also benefit others outside of the original age range of 16 to 30, they recognised that it was more about need than age. So, in 2020 they’ll be running 3 programmes for those aged between 18 and 30, as well as 4 programmes for the 30 and over age range. They’ll also be running a further programme for those living with more challenging physical limitations, including wheelchair users.
